Where the Wild Things Are

My first mural was an amazing opportunity to recreate one of my favorite books as a child. "Where the Wild Things Are"by Maurice Sendak. I loved the story of a boy with an nonrestrictive imagination, and the art was excellent. Todd Whitehead and his wife Kirstie were old friends of my family, and were having a baby. They enlisted my services to cover their son Jeremy's walls with a few scenes from the book. Re-creating illustrations on a large scale is a particular talent of mine, and I gladly agreed. The room was small, and I did a piece on three of the four walls. The largest wall with Max in his boat was about 15 feet by nine feet, the slanted wall with the trees was about 12 feet by ten feet, and the window wall was about 6 feet by eight ffet. I also painted a small border of grass and flowers around the base of the entire room. The project was done with non-toxic latex based paints, and was completed in two and a half days.
